"Command wants you to meet with the Ambassador again," Marcus Webb said, appearing beside her.

Elena nodded. "When?"

"Now."

They flew to the lunar base, where Ambassador Kaelen waited. The alien's silver skin gleamed under the artificial lights.

"We have studied your gift," Elena said. "It is genuine."

Kaelen inclined its head. "We wish to offer more-a alliance. Our people have enemies, the same ones who sent the fleet. Together, we can defeat them."

Elena hesitated. "Another war?"

"A defensive pact," Kaelen said. "We protect each other. Share resources. Build a future."

Marcus stepped forward. "What's in it for us?"

"Survival," Kaelen replied. "The enemy will return. They are more powerful than us alone. But together, we can stand."

Elena looked at Marcus, at the scientists, at the future.

"I'll recommend it to Command," she said.

The alliance was formed. Human and alien ships flew side by side, patrolling the solar system. The enemy never returned.

Elena stood on the lunar surface, watching the Earth rise.

"We did it," Marcus said.

"We started it," Elena replied. "The future is up to them."

She touched the photograph of her family, tucked into her flight suit.

"I'm coming home," she whispered.

The stars watched in silence.

A new chapter had begun-one of trust, of hope, of a future among the stars.

And Elena Vasquez was ready.

She had to be. The universe was vast.

But now, they would explore it together.
